Library Services During COVID-19

For Faculty

A dedicated team of library liaisons is here to support you. Liaisons can assist with requests for new resources — including materials for course reserve and trial access to databases — and provide instruction on how to do research. A full list of faculty resources and services.

Course Reserves

We have resumed processing Physical Reserves and continue to process Electronic Reserves. Physical Reserve materials may be made available to students for checkout at the Circulation/Reserves Desk for spring semester 2022. To place materials on reserve, read our course reserves for faculty page and then submit a reserves request form. Contact access_services@usfca.edu with any questions or special instructions.

Make sure you have streaming access to the films you plan to show. Search the library streaming video collections or contact us if you aren’t sure. Many academic video distributors are expanding streaming rights within course management systems. Contact our Media Librarian to facilitate use of videos on Kanopy or other collections.

For free and open alternatives to commercial textbooks, visit our Open Educational Resources (OER) guide and read our blog post about affordable textbook options for faculty.

Instruction

Our instruction librarians collaborate with USF faculty to teach classes on how to do research. Classes range from introductory orientations on library resources to in-depth sessions on how to do discipline-specific research, source evaluation, citation management, and more. We currently offer library instruction via a combination of in-person, Zoom, Canvas, and other online learning tools.

We are offering instruction classes in-person (either in your classroom or at the library) and online (via Zoom).

The library reserves the right to:

  • Reschedule instruction sessions or research consultations if needed.
  • Cancel classes or research consultations in case of emergencies.
  • Substitute librarian instructors or provide alternate instruction methods in the event of unexpected changes.

To request library instruction, please fill out the class instruction request form. The instruction librarians are working diligently to make sure classes continue to run smoothly as we all navigate the many changes brought about by the current pandemic. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to instruction@usfca.edu with any questions.
