Personalization
Some of the library's online resources allow users to personalize their experience once authenticated through OpenAthens. These personalization features vary, but when available they often include:
- Saving search results
- Saving searches
- Annotating sources
- Recommended resources
While personalization features can be very useful, they do require users to share personal information with service providers. Please see Privacy & Security for more information.
Fusion and EBSCO Databases
An EBSCO personal account is automatically created for you when you access an EBSCO database, such as Fusion. With your account, you can save search results, persistent links to searches, search alerts, journal alerts, and web pages to your personal folder.
Consent to Personal Data Retention and Usage Policy
In order to both access EBSCO databases and manage your personal account, you must consent to EBSCO's Personal Data Retention and Usage policy. You will be presented with a consent form when accessing EBSCO databases for the first time, and will be asked to re-confirm you consent on occasion thereafter to comply with evolving regulations.
If you do not consent, you will not be able to access EBSCO databases, including Fusion. This is because Gleeson Library has enabled the automatic creation of EBSCO personal accounts. EBSCO personal accounts are linked to your OpenAthens account and ensure that you always have access to your EBSCO folder along with all of the resources and searches you save while doing research. The only information that is shared with EBSCO to automatically create your personal account is your university username and email address.
EBSCO works with third party vendors to provide access to, manage, support, and improve upon its products and services. Retained data is shared with these entities to support those activities, but is not shared outside of this context. EBSCO does not sell personal data at any time or for any purpose.

Configuring Your Personal EBSCO Account
Click Update My Account in the upper right corner of any EBSCO database if you wish to add your name and email address to your account.
If you have an existing EBSCO account, you may continue to access it. Select Switch Accounts in the upper right and login to your old account. If you do not remember your login credentials, contact EBSCO support at support@ebsco.com.
Merging Accounts
If you already have a personal EBSCO account and you would like to move all saved items to your new account, you may merge accounts. Once your accounts are merged, the account that contained the data that was merged into the target account is removed and no longer exists.
If you wish to maintain your previously created account and simply migrate selected saved folders or items into your new one, make sure your items are in a custom folder and then share the folder by emailing it yourself. Follow the instructions in the email to add the folder to your new EBSCO account.

OpenAthens authentication to the following content providers and platforms are through SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language).
